For years, parents-to-be have squinted at fuzzy ultrasound photos, desperately trying to make out the head, or is that the foot? Now, new technology in the form of 3- and 4-D ultrasound scans have given prospective parents a clear "window into the womb." These amazingly detailed images allow parents to see their baby's organs and structures in development AND allow them to marvel at what their baby is doing. Guided by the expert hand of a pioneer obstetrician in the field, now everyone can be thrilled by the wonders of creation.

What the Book Offers:
*An astonishing series of pictures that demonstrates fetal behavior
*A week-by-week look at how babies develop in the uterus, narrated from the perspective of the baby
*Special Feature sidebars that answer important questions such as "How soon will I know whether my baby is boy or a girl?," "What can my baby do, and when?"

A pregnant friend of mine lend me this little book during my first trimester (my trimester of worry). It immediate became my favourite pregnancy book and the two other couples at work whom I lend it enjoyed it very much as well.As the subtitle suggests this book contains a week-by-week guide to baby's development in the womb which is illustrated by 3-dimensionalultrasound imaging. (The black and white scans that we all get done at 12 and 21 weeks are 2-dimensional, it is much easier for the untrainedeye to recognise details on a 3-dimensional scans). At the beginning Stuart Campbell explains briefly ultrasound scanning, before he summarises on one page what is happening when eggand sperm meet. From week 6 he describes the development of the embryo (from the embryos perspective), lists it's approximate size &weight and the whole lot is illustrated with a nice 3-dimensional picture. Added to this are boxes with additional information about e.g.Crown-to-rump measurement, Chorion Villus Sampling (CVS), The Fetal Heartbeat, Limb development, Amniotic fluid, The Umbilical Cord,Eye Colour, Behaviour Patterns, Birth Weight, Breathing. All the information is presented brief and simple.I found it very fascinating to read that for example by week 8 most of the internal organs -heart, brain, liver, lung and kidneys- havedeveloped in a basic form and the hands can bend at the wrist, by week 16 the nervous system is operating and muscles respond tostimulation from the brain, so the baby can coordinate his/ her movement. It is a lovely little book and I would recommend it as a present for any expecting couple (the earlier in pregnancy the better!).

I have given this a '3 star' rating purely for the condition of this 2nd hand book, I would have given it less but the ' I Hate it', 'I don't Like it' would not have been entirely true. The book was described as in 'Very Good' condition but I beg to differ. It had obviously been water/liquid damaged as the pages were all stuck together and there was a round cup stain on the cover. I tried to prise the pages apart but some are just too damaged. I have purchased 2nd hand books through amazon previously and have never been disappointed except for on this occasion, so lesson learned and as my mother would say "you only get what you pay for"!!!.The book however, contains some incredible pictures throughout and some very interesting information, and for this reason alone I did not give it a lower rating, if the book had been in good condition I would have rated it 5 stars .I purchased the book with the intention of giving it as a little gift to my son and daughter-in-law who have just discovered they are expecting my first grandchild, I was so impressed with the content of the book I have therefore decided to keep it for myself so I can check the progress of my grandchild, and will try and find a duplicate but BRAND NEW copy for my son and daughter-in-law.
