'The Alan Clark diaries of cultural politics' Sunday Times
'At every word a reputation dies' A. N. Wilson

Roy Strong is best known as the flamboyant former director of two great cultural institutions - the National Portrait Gallery and the Victoria & Albert Museum. In his first volume of diaries, he takes the reader into the heart of his career, revealing himself to be not just a mercurial and brilliant administrator, but also a shrewd observer of the glittering and political milieu into which he was drawn.

We encounter David Hockney in his studio, the poignant figure of Cecil Beaton in decline, Nureyev fizzing with ideas and the Philistine Mrs Thatcher among many others, including a bevy of the Royal Family. And throughout the diaries runs the thread of an exceptional marriage, following his elopement with the designer Julia Trevelyan Oman.

Splendours and Miseries provides a unique panorama of the world of the arts, fashion and society, taking us from the outrageous Swinging Sixties to the hard-edged glitz of Thatcher's Britain.

    • Bernard Reviczky (Author)

A patient died in a private hospital in Tyrol due to the incorrect ad:ministration nitrous oxide. It was made a mistake between oxygen and nitrous oxide during the intervertebral disks operation which caused his death by an overdose. The inquiry arose to the facts that the connector plugs had been installed to the wrong lines. Who might be liable for the negligent homicide? The answer might be the com:pany which had installed the lines and the connector plugs as well as the anaesthetist as the alarm which should be active and ring if the oxygen content is too low was switched off. Also the hospital's legally and economically responsible body might be liable for the mortal negligence according to the law. Furthermore the media reported that the operation theatre was recently re-engineered and not yet licensed and officially approved by the authorities according to the building regulations law. Hence the use of the operation theatre was not yet allowed. Finally also the management of the hospital might have violated applicable legal regulations. Legal Risk Management might help to avoid the accrual of a cause of legal responsibility. The book also describes Risk Management in general.
