René's story is inspirational- his reach of experience and 'stories' and their relevance not just for business but the way we can really achieve for our organisations and ourselves- What is your Spike? Read and find out

"Be like me, then you can be the best you can be" (cf Charles Schwartz on organisational totalitarianism) is the typical way some business leaders try to validate their lives by exhorting you to copy them. Rene Carayol turns this tired conventional wisdom on its head, effectively saying "Be like YOU, then you can be the best you can be".Rene shares his life experiences, but not in a "how great am I" way, but rather in a way which allows the reader to reflect on their own opportunities and choices, and helps you think about what opportunities you are going to actively create for yourself next, and equips you to make better choices when those opportunities come.My dutch mum once told me "Franz, never try to teach a pig to whistle: it wastes your time and annoys the pig!". Rene's disdain for the corporate obsession with weakness shines through as a call to arms to developmental specialists everywhere: what if we could grow even better at the things we do superbly, rather than a little better at the things we are weak at.Rene's approach builds on the strength-based management movement by joining it with ideas from "authentic happiness" (cf Martin Seligman or Nick Bayliss). In doing so he liberates the notion of "potential" away from the limited world of work, or the formulaic angst of the self-help section, and offers clues to self-discovery which don't dictate the direction of travel. The connection to a personal sense of purpose is important and self-renewing: its hard to commit to the pointless. The book has a strong sense of philanthropy, and that comes from the perspective that a "spike" that improves the world for others is more sustainable. After all, who in real life wants to be truly great at being truly bad?.

Focus on your strengths. Too many times we are belittled and made to feel inferior for our weaknesses instead of focusing on what we are good at. More schools and work places could learn from this book. Bring out the best of your team by focusing on what they are good at. What are your SPIKES?! 10/10

If you're at the crossroad of your life and feeling you're not fulfilling your potential, Spike can really be a life changer for you. This is not yet another "motivational" book but a book full of action's. Having read and applied this book, I know my life will never be the same. I am really glad I am redefining myself and discovering my true spikes.Follow the book to realise who you really are and who you meant to be. A must read...

This is an awesome read and quite refreshing for a business/self development book which can often be dry, patronising and a hard read. I found this book so compelling that I found it hard to put it down (and that's saying something for someone who doesn't read a lot). Rene is a great story-teller and this book reads how he speaks. I love how you get glimpses into Rene's personal life and his own personal challenges and stories as well as dripping in plenty of real life examples how we can translate that into our own lives and business and get the best out of the people we work with.

What a truly amazing book, SPIKE is a fantastic read for any leader, or for anyone trying to find their purpose and where they fit.René has outdone himself yet again, the book has amazing life changing methods to take heed of which actually work, instead of unrealistic aims and methods that don't last.Clearly explained, with principles and stories from those at the apex of their industries, it offers a framework to live by, if you're seeking direction and inspiration in your life! Truly a must read.
