I’ll start off by saying that Stephanie Perkins is one hell of an amazing writer! I wasn’t expecting to love Lola and the Boy Next Door as much as I loved Anna and the French Kiss but boy was I wrong because book was freaking awesome!Lola is 17 years old and dresses in a way that most people would consider outrageous but that’s just who Lola is. She has a seriously quirky sense of fashion and doesn’t let others tell her that she’s wrong. Reading about what she was wearing honestly contributed to a ton of the fun that came from reading this book :) Also just going to slip a little note in and say that it warmed my heart to see Anna and Étienne in this book – I actually did a little fangirl dance and squealed. Okay, side note over.I pretty much adored everything about this book’s story! Lola is dating Max, who is five years older than her, but when her old neighbours move back – the Bells – things start falling apart. Lola used to be really close to Cricket Bell but two years ago he broke her heart before moving away. But despite the heartbreak that Lola still carries, her friendship with Cricket pretty much picks right up where it left off. I’m a sucker for relationships where friendship turns into more and Stephanie Perkins mastered this with Lola and Cricket *another fangirl dance*! There are lots of complicated emotions on both of their parts but underneath all the complications is a friendship that has survived for a long time. Lola and Cricket fit each other like no one else is able to and it was all SO DARN SWEET!!!! Man, the feels in this book were perfect I tell you, PERFECT!Okay, under control now. Actually not really. All I can say is that this was an amazing sequel and Stephanie Perkins is seriously one of my favourite YA contemporary writers :) . I couldn’t put Lola and the Boy Next Door down and all I can say is that you NEED to read it!YA4.5 starsReview originally posted on The Slanted Bookshelf: http://www.slantedbookshelf.com/perfect-review-lola-boy-next-door-stephanie-perkins/

I’ve found the two preceding books in the Anna and The French Kiss series to be an incredibly sweet, fun and flirty series. I’m happy to say that Isla and the Happily Ever After fits the pattern. I thought it was a very sweet read which didn’t take me long to devour. Whilst I didn’t enjoy it as much as I enjoyed Lola, I was still impressed with the final book in the series. Isla, like the other books in the series, doesn’t need to be read with the previous books. It’s a companion to Anna and Lola. So if you’re worried you won’t understand this book, don’t be, there’s no need to read them in order. With Isla and the Happily Ever After, the reader gets to know the rather quiet girl Isla. Readers of the rest of the series may remember her appearing in Anna and The French Kiss with her major crush on Josh. Isla has a lot more to her than meets the eye, as many of us do. What I liked about this book, was that there wasn’t as much of an angsty build up. However, it is quite an intense read. The relationship is incredibly intense. It of course, is adorable as well but it’s full on quite fast.Isla and Josh are such good characters. You can totally see why they’re attracted to each other. Even though the relationship seems quite fast, it doesn’t come out of nowhere. There’s been the attraction there for a while for both characters. Isla and Josh have issues with their parents and teachers getting in the way of their relationship. That’s so relatable for many people out there!Isla’s best friend Kurt was a brilliant character as well. I was so pleased to see a character with high functioning Autism in a piece of Young Adult literature. I’m all about representation in literature and it was lovely to see that Kurt was portrayed as someone much more than their condition.Isla and the Happily Ever After is deeper and feels darker than the rest of the series. It’s intense and has a much more mature feel to it. Instead of focusing on how the characters get together it’s more about how you can stay together despite obstacles getting in your way!
