The eighth book in the "Seeking Religion" series, this title presents the variety of Buddhist traditions and ways of life, both in Britain and around the world. It is suitable for students at Key Stage 3, including those of average or below average ability. Each chapter includes questions and work assignments.Buddhism is not a difficult religion for pupoils of this age range to study. It is presented here in a way that is relevant. Other books by Mel Thompson includes "Ethics", "Guidelines for Life", "Leading the Way", "Religion and Science" and "Buddhist Teaching and Practice".

These Key Stage 3 books offer information and activities about the six major world religions. The foundation edition for lower-ability pupils has been editied by a special needs consultant: the text is simpler and the print size is larger, reflecting the lower reading age of the foundation students. Questions in each section allow students to consolidate their learning. The books are beautifully produced with high quality photographs. Information is accurate and the books are written to conform to the QCA model syllabuses, so RE teachers will find them very useful. I bought this book to teach 14 year olds the basics of Buddhism as I have used the same editions for other religions e.g. The Hindu/Muslim/Jewish Experience and found they worked well. This is no exception as it explains very clearly the main precepts of Buddhism and gives the reader examples of how following them affects their daily lives. It is well-set out with lots of illustrations and just enough information without being too wordy or complicated. An excellent starter for anyone interested in Buddhism but particularly suitable for young adults.
